Description

Walk the streets of Kyoto with our knowledgeable guide. Yyou will not just see, but experience the history and life of this historical city.

Start the tour at Nijo Castle, the spectacular palace
complex that was used as the headquarters of the samurai leadership
between the years 1603 and 1867. Many of the buildings are original and exemplify period architecture. Enjoy walking through the palace with its beautiful wall paintings and decorations that give insight to the political power struggle of warlords in the era.

After a short ride on the subway, enjoy a stroll through Nishiki Market.
The shopping arcade locally known as "Kyoto's Kitchen" has been around for hundreds of years, and recently it has become a very popular place to visit and try interesting food and snacks. The shop owners are inviting and some even offer free samples. Try some of the delicious items on display here!

Enjoy the picturesque streets of the famous entertainment district of Gion and learn about traditional Kyoto architecture and the Geisha. With some luck you can catch a glimpse of the Geisha as they walk between tea-houses.

Nearby we can find Yasaka Shrine, also known as Gion shrine.
Our guide will explain about the Shinto religion, and the importance of the shrine and its yearly festival.

After taking a lunch break, walk toward Kiyomizu Temple via Ninenzaka & Sannenzaka streets. Have a good look of local souvenirs and stop by at a local green tea cafe if you like.

The final destination of the tour is the world heritage Kiyomizu Temple. Before reaching the temple, you can enjoy the small streets leading up to it and browse through shops selling antiques and souvenirs. This area is especially famous for its pottery. In Kiyomizu, hear the history of Niomon Gate, The Main Stage, Otowa no Taki Waterfall. Enjoy cherry blossom in spring and red leaves in autumn.

The tour will end here. Explore the area further on own or walk back to Gion area with guide.
